Cryptocurrency Unit Converter

Convert between different cryptocurrency units and denominations.

About Cryptocurrency Units

Cryptocurrencies use different units and denominations. Understanding these units is crucial for transactions and calculations.

Common Units
Bitcoin (BTC)
  • • Bitcoin (BTC): 1 BTC = 1 BTC
  • • Millibitcoin (mBTC): 1 BTC = 1,000 mBTC
  • • Microbitcoin (μBTC): 1 BTC = 1,000,000 μBTC
  • • Satoshi (satoshi): 1 BTC = 100,000,000 satoshi
Ethereum (ETH)
  • • Ether (ETH): 1 ETH = 1 ETH
  • • Finney (finney): 1 ETH = 1,000 finney
  • • Szabo (szabo): 1 ETH = 1,000,000 szabo
  • • Gwei (gwei): 1 ETH = 1,000,000,000 gwei
  • • Wei (wei): 1 ETH = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 wei
Binance Coin (BNB)
  • • BNB (BNB): 1 BNB = 1 BNB
  • • Jager (jager): 1 BNB = 100,000,000 jager
Solana (SOL)
  • • SOL (SOL): 1 SOL = 1 SOL
  • • Lamport (lamport): 1 SOL = 1,000,000,000 lamport

What a Crypto Unit Converter Does

A crypto unit converter changes an amount between the smaller denominations used inside Bitcoin and Ethereum. Just as a rupee has paise, cryptocurrencies are divisible into much smaller units that wallets, exchanges, and blockchains use behind the scenes.

This tool focuses on the two most common conversions:

  • Bitcoin: BTC and satoshi (sats)
  • Ethereum: ETH, gwei, and wei

These are fixed mathematical conversions, not market prices. One satoshi is always the same fraction of a Bitcoin regardless of what Bitcoin is worth in ₹ or dollars. That makes unit conversion exact and reliable, unlike currency conversion which depends on changing exchange rates.

Bitcoin: BTC and Satoshi

The smallest unit of Bitcoin is the satoshi, named after Bitcoin's creator. The relationship is fixed:

  • 1 BTC = 100,000,000 satoshis (one hundred million)
  • 1 satoshi = 0.00000001 BTC

To convert, use these formulas:

  • Satoshis = BTC × 100,000,000
  • BTC = Satoshis ÷ 100,000,000

Satoshis are handy for talking about tiny amounts, network fees, and micro-payments, where a fraction of a Bitcoin is easier to read as a whole number of sats.

Ethereum: ETH, Gwei and Wei

Ethereum has more named units because it needs fine precision for gas (transaction) fees. The smallest unit is the wei, and gwei (gigawei) is the unit most often used to express gas prices.

  • 1 ETH = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 wei (10^18 wei)
  • 1 ETH = 1,000,000,000 gwei (10^9 gwei)
  • 1 gwei = 1,000,000,000 wei (10^9 wei)

The conversion formulas are:

  • Wei = ETH × 10^18
  • Gwei = ETH × 10^9
  • Wei = Gwei × 10^9
UnitIn weiIn ETH
1 ETH1,000,000,000,000,000,0001
1 gwei1,000,000,0000.000000001
1 wei10.000000000000000001

So a gas price of 20 gwei is the same as 20,000,000,000 wei, or 0.00000002 ETH per unit of gas.

Why These Units Matter

Understanding crypto units helps you read wallets and fees correctly and avoid costly mistakes:

  • Reading fees: Bitcoin fees are often quoted in sats or sats per byte, and Ethereum gas in gwei.
  • Avoiding errors: Sending an amount in wei when you meant ETH would be a huge difference, so double-check units before confirming a transaction.
  • Precision: Smart contracts and blockchains store balances in the smallest unit (sats or wei) to avoid rounding, which is why these denominations exist.

Remember that this converter only changes between units of the same coin. It does not convert BTC to ETH or to ₹ - that requires a live market price, which constantly changes. The unit conversions here, however, are exact and never change.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are exactly 100,000,000 satoshis (one hundred million) in 1 BTC. To convert, multiply BTC by 100,000,000 to get sats, or divide sats by 100,000,000 to get BTC.

A satoshi, or sat, is the smallest unit of Bitcoin, equal to 0.00000001 BTC. It is named after Bitcoin's pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, and is used for small amounts and fees.

1 ETH equals 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 wei, which is 10 to the power of 18 (a quintillion) wei. Wei is the smallest indivisible unit of Ether.

Gwei (gigawei) equals 1,000,000,000 wei, or 0.000000001 ETH. It is the unit most commonly used to express Ethereum gas prices, so you will often see fees quoted as, for example, 20 gwei.

No. It only converts between units of the same coin, such as BTC to sats or ETH to gwei, using fixed ratios. Converting between different coins or to ₹ needs a live market price, which changes constantly.

Yes. Unlike currency exchange rates, the ratios between BTC and sats, or ETH, gwei and wei, are fixed by the protocol and never change. So these conversions are always precise.
