Convert between different international clothing size standards and find your perfect fit.

How the Clothing Size Converter Works

A clothing size converter takes a size you already know, such as a US Medium or a UK 12, and translates it into the matching size in another region. This is useful when you shop from international brands, travel abroad, or buy gifts, because the same body measurements are labelled very differently in the US, UK, EU and India.

The converter is built around real body measurements, mainly the chest and waist for men and the bust, waist and hips for women. Letter sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL) and numeric sizes (such as 8, 10, 12 or 38, 40, 42) both map back to these measurements, so once you know your numbers you can move confidently between any system.

Remember that sizing is not regulated. Two brands in the same country can differ by a full size, and "vanity sizing" means some labels run generous. Treat every chart as a reliable guide, then confirm against the specific brand's own size table before you buy.

International Clothing Size Charts

The tables below show widely accepted conversions. For women, EU sizes are typically the UK size plus 28 (UK 12 = EU 40), while India usually follows the UK system closely.

For men, US and UK jacket and shirt sizes share the same numbers, EU adds 10 to that number, and India commonly uses the chest measurement in inches as the size.

How to Measure Yourself for the Right Fit

Accurate measurements beat guessing at a label every time. Use a soft tape measure, wear light clothing, and keep the tape level and snug but not tight.

  • Bust/chest: Measure around the fullest part, under the arms and across the shoulder blades.
  • Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above the belly button.
  • Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
  • Inseam: For trousers, measure from the crotch seam down to the ankle.

Practical tips for a better fit:

  • Always check the brand's own size chart, since cuts vary between slim, regular and relaxed.
  • When you fall between two sizes, size up for comfort and layering, or down for a fitted look.
  • Read reviews to learn whether an item runs small, large or true to size.
  • Account for fabric: stretch knits forgive more than rigid woven cotton or denim.

By starting from your measurements and using the charts above as a guide, you can shop across US, UK, EU and Indian brands with far fewer returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

For women, no. A US size is typically two numbers smaller than the equivalent UK size, so US 8 equals UK 12. For men's shirts and jackets the numbers usually match between the US and UK.

For women, add 28 to the UK size to get the EU size, so UK 10 becomes EU 38 and UK 14 becomes EU 42. For men's tops, EU sizes are generally the UK number plus 10.

Indian sizing often follows the UK numeric system closely, so a UK 12 is usually an Indian 12. Many Indian brands also label by chest or bust measurement in inches, so checking the actual measurement is the safest approach.

For women, Small is roughly US 6 / UK 10, Medium is US 8 / UK 12, and Large is US 10 / UK 14. For men, Small is about a 36 chest, Medium a 38, and Large a 40, though brands vary.

Clothing sizes are not legally standardised, so each brand sets its own measurements and some use vanity sizing that runs generous. Use the converter as a guide and always confirm against the specific brand's size chart.

Size up if you prefer a relaxed fit, plan to layer, or the fabric has little stretch. Size down for a fitted look or when the material is stretchy. Reviews noting whether an item runs small or large can help you decide.
